The story was made famous in “Defiance” starring Daniel Craig as Tuvia Bielski.
By: Holocaust Memorial Center The Holocaust Memorial Center is located at 28123 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills. The exhibit, an exhibition of the Florida Holocaust Museum and sponsored nationally by Bank of America, begins with life in Belarus, accounts of escape and the formation of probably the most famous partisan detachment. Through panels, artifacts and interactive displays, the exhibit shows the courage and commitment of this intrepid band of rebels. It will remain on display through Nov. 4. Award-winning independent filmmaker and television editor Sharon Rennert, who recently made the documentary, “In Our Hands: A Personal Story of the Bielski Partisans,” will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony on Sunday, July 15 at 2:30 p.m. Rennert is the granddaughter of the famed partisan Tuvia Bielski, who, along with brothers Zus and Asael, refused to succumb to the hopeless circumstances of the Holocaust, took fate into their own hands and kindled a flame of hope in the hearts of Jews searching for sense and meaning during one of their darkest times in history. Sharon Rennert has been editing and producing documentary series and television specials for nearly 20 years. She is an active member of the Editor's Guild, and is currently working on “The Bachelor” for ABC and "The Real World" for MTV. It is the mission of the Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus to remember those who perished and those who survived the Holocaust and, in a world increasingly faced with sectarian strife and intolerance, to set forth the lessons of Holocaust as a model for teaching ethical conduct and responsible decision-making. By highlighting those individuals who, in the midst of evil, stood for the best, rather than the worst of human nature, the Holocaust Memorial Center seeks to contribute to maintaining an open and free society. The facility is wheelchair accessible and free parking is available at both the North and South entrances.
