July 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Statistics show that women currently file more than two-thirds of divorce cases in the United States. Although the numbers vary between cities and provinces, a total of 70% of the American divorce proceedings being observed today were initiated and pursued by women.

With the current TomKat situations, it becomes more evident how women often times become the aggressor in the divorce settlement. But unlike what everyone assumes as the reasons e behind this fact, women are more inclined to file for divorce because of the way the laws works. Any divorce attorney would confirm that the grounds for dissolution of marriage favor women’s interests more than men. Custody is often awarded to them, which means they are entitled to child support. And since majority of middle-class households still have the male as the breadwinner; most of those who set out to divorce their husbands stand to get alimony in the process.

Then again, there is also that consideration that men are likely to provide more grounds for divorce than women. Men commit adultery 70% of the time. And they are also more prone to fits of violence. Moreover, men have been found to have more reasons to separate themselves from their family for as long as a year; probably more. A divorce attorney could use any of these circumstances to justify a woman’s intent to separate from her husband. And as such, they feel more confident taking the first step.
