By: Randy Kirk & Associates The aluminum frame reduces weight to the minimum possible on a bike in this price range by using hydroforming, instead of traditional round tubes. By changing the shape at various points, the Gary Fisher designed frame can be wide where necessary for strength, aerodynamically shaped when possible, and narrow and light in places where weight is the only consideration. The bike comes equipped with 27 gears. With such a wide range of choices, the rider can find the perfect option for the steepest hills, long gradual climbs, or for aggressive downhill action. The drive train uses Shimano Alivio M431, 48/36/26 w/chainguard with a matching Alivio derailleur in the front. For the rear cluster a SRAM PG-950 11-32, 9 speed cassette and dependable Shimano Deore derailleur. All these gears are controlled by a Shimano Alivio, 9 speed trigger shifter for sure and easy shifting. There are two button here. Push one and it makes it harder to pedal. Push the other and it is easier to pedal. Besides the aluminum frame, two major elements on the bike add to comfort. First the front suspension Shocks from SR Suntour. The NRX model is adjustable w/lockout and has 63mm travel. The lockout feature allows you to go to full lockout or from lockout to full activation with a quick flip of the switch. Right now it's not locked out. Then I can flip the switch and it stops it from moving, altogether This means that you can make the switch as needed on trails that are constantly changing You hands are the second most likely place on the body to suffer the kind of fatigue that takes all the fun out of longer rides. The Bontrager Satellite Elite, lock-on, ergonomic grips give you plenty of cushion from road vibrations and allow you to position your hands in a way that reduces fatigue. I've saved the best for last. The new frame building technologies have allowed Trek to create a very wide tire clearance front and back, which ccommodates anything from a 700x35c tires with fenders, or a burly Bontrager XDX 29"x1.8" MTB tire without fenders. This feature allows you to change wheels or tires to suit your situation with no loss in performance. Thus the bike becomes truly a dual sport. Scheller's carries a wide range of the dual sport bikes from Trek at their five stores in Lexington, Louisville, and Clarksville, IN. Scheller's offers free test rides for interested parties. End
