The Scheller Boys Bring Their Fitness and Bike Shop Back Home to Evansville

Jan. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- You can take the boy out of Evansville, but you can't take Evansville out of the boy.  Greg, Tim, and Marty Scheller might have moved out of town after growing up here and graduating from UE, but their hearts yearned for a connection.  So when they looked for a place to open a 6th Scheller's Fitness & Cycling location, they looked for a prime property back home in Indiana.

Their love for bicycles started in Evansville where they found part time work in local bike shops.  Marty and Tim worked for Bill Gilles at Gilles Schwinn Cyclery and Greg worked for Jack & Kathleen Summers at Art's Schwinn Cyclery,  through high school and college.  After college, Greg was approached by Bill Gilles to open and manage a store in Madisonville.  Bill and Greg became partners and Greg went to Louisville to open a store with Bill. When Bill was ready to retire Greg bought Bill’s share and his brothers eventually joined him in the enterprise and more locations were opened in Louisville, Lexington, and Clarksville.  All six stores now sell and service a full range of fitness equipment for home or commercial use in addition to bicycles under the Schellers Fitness & Cycling brand.

The Schellers have purchased a parcel at Vogel Rd. and Royal where they will build a new store to house the new Evansville shop.  Greg Scheller explains the plan:  "We feel fortunate to have hired Kyle Rickenbaugh to manage our temporary facility at 5625 E. Virginia St.   Kyle will move to our new state-of-the-art Trek Concept Store retail location due to open in June at 5701 Vogel Rd.”

"We couldn't be more excited about returning to our roots, and making a contribution to the community that gave us so much growing up," explains Greg.  "Our new shop will eventually employ ten or more full and part-time workers, and we look forward to helping some youngsters get a great start in life by working in a bike shop."
