Follow on Google News | 10th Annual Grand Central Oyster Frenzy Features World Shucking Championships Sept. 29 in N.Y.The top professional oyster shuckers on the planet – including six-time champion Luis “The Mexican Menace” Iglesius – compete in the world compete in the Oyster Frenzy’s Professional Shucking Championships, Sat., Sept. 29.
The first round of the title tilt begins at 1:00 P.M. and will feature six-time champ Luis “The Mexican Menace” Iglesius from Corona, Queens, defending his title on his Oyster Bar home turf. Second place is worth $1,000, and third place $500. In addition, the “Slurp Off” eating competition, and the Beer Shucking Championships sponsored by Bluepoint Brewery are both open to the public. Oyster maven John Bil will give a seminar entitled “The ABC’s of Oysters.” Chef demonstrations will be hosted by 9-year-old phenom Sam Wahobe, who recently appeared at the White House with First Lady Michelle Obama; executive chef Ben Cicitto, Northeast regional chef for Phillips Seafood, among others.
