ABB robot to create "dream inspired" works of art whilst you sleep

Oct. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- As part of their new “Sleep Art” campaign, IBIS will invite 25 people to spend the night on a specially-designed mattress and have their nocturnal movements turned into a personalized work of art.

At the core of the concept lies some complex technology:
80 sensors concealed in the mattress detect motion, sound and temperature. This data is then transmitted via WIFI to an ABB robot, which transforms it into a series of multi-colored brushstrokes applied on a canvas and executes an artistic data rendering that becomes a unique acrylic painting.

IBIS, owned by the Accor Group, asked ABB in France to collaborate in helping it to realize the campaign that focuses on the importance of sleep, part of its strategy to become a leading brand in the economy hotel segment. ABB then developed the interface to the software produced by Swedish production studio ACNE that allows the robot to capture sleep patterns, process the data and turn it into a personalized visualization.

To participate, people must like the IBIS Facebook page and be available as the Sleep Art experience tours Europe (Paris, Berlin, London) from mid-October to late November. The selected individuals will not only win a complimentary one night stay, but will also walk away with their personalized “artwork”, created by the ABB robot.
