By: Christie Digital New York Comic Con is a convention dedicated to celebrating all the latest in the comic book, graphic novel, video game and pop culture entertainment industries. Attracting more than 105,000 science fiction and fantasy enthusiasts, it is the second largest annual event held in New York City. At the event, fans from near and far gather to meet and greet their favorite celebrities, writers and animators, catch new movie trailers, and find unique, rare and popular collectibles from the science fiction universe on sale. “We were thrilled to provide digital cinema projection through our trusted partner, Digital Media Systems, at this fun and very special convention,” Two for the Show The concentration of this targeted, energetic fan base makes it a prime opportunity for directors and studios to generate buzz by showcasing their latest exclusive footage and previews. This required a digital projection system of the highest quality to ensure the most accurate depiction of the filmmakers’ vision. For the screenings, organizers entrusted Gregg Paliotta, president and owner of Digital Media Systems, to install Christie DLP Cinema® digital projectors in the main hall for the second year in a row. He selected two Christie CP2230 2K projectors, one for each of the two 13-foot by 24-foot screens that dominated the right and left sides of the theater stage. “We showed a 3D movie with a Christie projector and RealD 3D last year and got a great response; everyone was very pleased with the incredible picture quality. Our role was expanded this year with Christie delivering all the projected content in the hall and for one special 3D event,” said Paliotta. “The theater holds about 2,800 people and is the center of programming for the show, so we were very excited about all the events to unfold with the Christie projectors lighting up the venue. And, of course, the Christie projectors delivered as promised.” Among the anticipated scheduled events to be projected were the first public screening of footage from “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2”; and exclusive footage from “The Bay,” an eco-horror movie from Oscar®-winning director Barry Levinson and the producers of “Paranormal Activity”. The cast of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” also held a panel to discuss and present an exclusive clip from the season 3 premiere. Christie is the Display ‘Superhero’ For Paliotta, Christie is “the real hero” when it comes to delivering the most powerful performances for these high profile situations. “We worked with the same people as last year and knew they were counting on us to deliver – which is why we chose Christie,” he said. “We use Christie projectors exclusively because the company is the only one we trust to give us the performance and reliability we need.” Digital Media Systems provides complete equipment and engineering support for world premieres and event screenings.
