Oct. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Ferndale – On Tuesday, October 9, the Sullivan County Visitors Association and several of the county’s farms and Sullivan County agricultural products participated in the Taste Our Local Harvest Annual Tasting Event held at the Westchester Country Club.  The event was a huge success with over 250 people in attendance.  Local farm product was paired with chefs from the Hudson Valley to produce delicious tastings for attendees.

The Sullivan County Visitors Association’s goal in attending this event was to bring together the farmers and products of Sullivan County with country clubs’ chefs and owners from the Hudson Valley and Connecticut area.  “We wanted to expose our great Sullivan County farm product to a very lucrative market in the Westchester area”, stated Roberta Byron-Lockwood. “The chefs and owners are looking for quality local grown produce and product to offer on their menus.”

Suppliers from Sullivan County included Tonjes Farms, Diehl Farms, Java Love Roasters, and Catskill Distillery.  Mary Tonjes’ thoughts: “It was a remarkable opportunity to showcase some of the products Sullivan County has to offer and to see the continuing demand for local products.”

Other representatives for Sullivan County included Jennifer Mall from the Sullivan County Planning Department, Amy Erlwein, Sullivan County Farm Network and the SCVA.  “The Taste of Harvest event was a wonderful way for local farmers to show the great products produced in Sullivan County,” said Amy.  “The chefs that I spoke with wanted very much to work with local farmers, and I hope next year we can encourage more farms and products to participate.”

“The farms that attended the show have already received orders for their products,” noted Byron-Lockwood “and the exposure of our product is invaluable.”
