ABB Robotics to exhibit full packaging lineup at Pack Expo 2012

Demos to feature Picking Packing Palletizing solutions, including advanced software, that continue ABB’s mission to make robot systems easier to program and operate

Oct. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- ABB Robotics is exhibiting two fully operational, multi-robot demonstration cells at Pack Expo 2012, October 28-31 at McCormick Place in Chicago (Booth # N-4533). The two cells accentuate ABB’s complete line of packaging robots, from individual product handling robots to those that handle full layer depalletizing. Also on display are the most recent results of ABB’s ongoing mission to develop robotic software that reduces programming complexity and creates an intuitive human machine interface for production operation - highlighted by the RobotStudio Palletizing PowerPac, PalletPack 460 and PickMaster3 products.

The first demo displays the performance and versatility of ABB’s comprehensive palletizing portfolio, featuring three models of ABB 4-axis palletizing robots. The robots demonstrate the palletizing and depalletizing of varying formats of corrugated cases. The demo utilizes three different end-of-arm tools including both the clamp and vacuum gripper from ABB’s FlexGripper line. The entire cell is programmed using ABB’s ease-of-use software products.

A second robotic demo features the IRB 360 FlexPicker™ and the IRB 120, ABB’s smallest 6-axis robot, picking and placing individual candy packages at a speed in excess of 120 units per minute. The FlexPicker is the most widely used Delta robot in the industry with over 5,000 worldwide installations since 1997. Also on display from ABB’s Discrete Automation and Motion (DM) division will be a broad range of motion and PLC products designed to enhance the performance of packaging systems, including solutions with advanced Ethernet technologies for communications between PLCs/HMI, motion controllers, servo drives and servo/linear motors. ABB Jokab Safety will display an array of electronic machine safety components and mechanical interlock switches.
