![]() Midas Mount Presents The SnapFocusBy: Midas Mount “The SnapFocus is an intuitive way for humans to interact with cameras,” said Brandon David Cole, a feature filmmaker and ex-professional BMX rider who married his passion for filmmaking and knowledge of bicycle mechanics when he devised a way to actuate focus with brake levers with the help of his neighbor Harry Gramig, a retired inventor and machinist. Using bicycle-style brake levers on the handles of a camera support rig, the SnapFocus gives filmmakers control over the focus of a lens without losing stability of the camera. “The SnapFocus technology sets a new standard for motion picture image capture,” said Cole, Midas Mount’s co-founder and co-inventor of the SnapFocus Technology. “It’s a breakthrough idea that will empower filmmakers with the ability to pull off Hollywood cinematography as a one-man-band indie filmmaker. The SnapFocus Follow Focus System will initially be available only as a bundle with the Midas Mount HitchHiker Shoulder Rig for a complete handheld filmmaking solution. A separate SnapFocus System, adaptable to other handheld rigs will be available before the end of 2013. The SnapFocus was initially introduced on Kickstarter.com in May of 2012 where it was successfully funded in the first five days, picked up the endorsement of Lost Co-Creator JJ Abrams and went on to raise $110,000 in 28 days. Subsequent sales of prototype SnapFocus units to early-adopter customers throughout the last year helped the filmmaker and inventor develop the idea to the retail version being announced today. “Sending our early prototype units out into the world with real filmmakers helped us really kick the tires on this idea,” said Cole “and the retail version of the SnapFocus that we are announcing today holds the value of all the solutions we found to filmmakers comments about the earlier iterations.” Pricing & Availability The SnapFocus/HitchHiker bundle is being offered through April 30th on the MidasMount.com website for the introductory price of $1,299. The SnapFocus/HitchHIker rig will then be available exclusively through Midas Mount’s distributor evs in Glendale, CA (www.evsonline.com) at an M.S.R.P. of $1,699.
