Nov. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- The Lint Center, a non-profit charity focused on supporting the educational pursuits of the next generation of America’s Counterintelligence and National Security Workers, today formally announced Michelle Shevin-Coetzee was awarded the 2012 Jim and Anna Hyonjoo Lint Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support the undergraduate and graduate pursuits of scholars interested in National Security.

Lint Center scholarships include a monetary, material, and networking gift to its winners. The monetary gifts range from $500 to $1,500 and are to be used for investments in education and development. The other two gifts, winners consider invaluable. They are a year-long subscription to leading geo-political analysts and world-renowned forecasting organization, Stratfor and an official introduction to the Lint Center’s vast mentor network with a matched one-on-one mentor from the National Security community in the scholarship winner’s area or organization of interest.

The Lint Center for National Security Studies Scholarship Committee evaluates scholarship applicants by more than the sum of their scholarly achievements. Applicant-winners have a pointed and distinctive essay on a Counterintelligence or National Security topic, a personal essay presenting a multi-layered and compelling individual to the Scholarship Committee, soaring letters of recommendation, and a superb academic transcript. Most of all, Lint Center scholarship winners possess a presence of being that undoubtedly epitomizes one of a future National Security professional: a potential for leadership, integrity of character, and clear determination.

“It’s a privilege and honor to be awarded the Jim and Anna Hyonjoo Lint Scholarship from the Lint Center for National Security Studies,” said Michelle Shevin-Coetzee, a sophomore at the George Washington University and active Policy Intern within the Department of Defense. “As a student intensely passionate about Defense, Security, and the conservation of languages, I am driven by the inspiring women who came before me, and I look forward to learning from the niche community and affiliates that the Lint Center offers its winners.”

“The Lint Center Team is delighted to award the 2012 Jim and Anna Hyonjoo Lint Scholarship to Ms. Shevin-Coetzee,” said Dr. Anna H. Lint, Vice Chairwoman of the Lint Center. “As a minority-run and operated non-profit, the Lint Center for National Security Studies has increasingly emphasized the importance of a growing and equitable female presence and influence in the civilian and military Defense, Security, and Intelligence arenas. Ms. Shevin-Coetzee’s impressive understanding and passion for not only Defense and Security policy but also her drive to progress women’s roles in these arenas is aligned with one of the understated initiatives of the Center. We look forward to helping Ms. Shevin-Coetzee accomplish our shared conviction of continuing to build a dominant National Security Community for the next generation.”

Due to the generosity and continued support of the world’s leading private intelligence company, Strategic Forecasting, Inc., Ms. Shevin-Coetzee will also receive a one-year subscription to Stratfor’s Subscription service, which includes industry leading intelligence reports providing situational awareness, geopolitical analysis, and analytically rigorous forecasting.
