Dec. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- The Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) has partnered with the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), and Interiors & Sources magazine to host the 2012 interior design education video competition. The international competition, open to interior design students, interior design educators and interior design practitioners, calls for the creation of a short video that will demonstrate the importance of established interior design education and examination standards.

This year’s video theme is: How is sustainability—and, subsequently, human health—positively impacted by the skills of fully prepared interior design practitioners?

This competition has been established to change the current perception of interior design – demonstrating that interior designers are well educated, examined and skilled. “Increasing the voice of interior design by not one, but hundreds of designers is monumental to the advancement of the profession,” says IDEC Executive Director Jeffrey Beachum. “Now students, educators and practitioners all have the chance to define the profession and demonstrate their view of interior design and the importance of education and examination to them.”

The videos will be reviewed by a panel of judges from IDEC, CIDA, IIDA and NCIDQ. Three winners will be announced and each will receive a cash prize, certificate of achievement, an opportunity to have his or her video hosted on IDEC, CIDA, IIDA and NCIDQ’s Web sites along with recognition in an issue of Interiors & Sources magazine.

All videos must be completed and uploaded to the IDEC website by January 11, 2013. For more information on the contest and instructions on how to submit a video, visit www.idec.org/videocompetition.htm.

A team from Radford University produced last year’s winning video demonstrating how interior design affects local, regional and global economies. The video has been viewed more than 35,000 times on YouTube. The three winning videos are also online at www.idec.org/videocompetition.htm.

The Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) is an international organization with the mission of advancing interior design education, scholarship and service. Founded in 1963, IDEC has over 850 members.  For more information, go online to www.idec.org.
