Corrosion Protection for the X-47B Drone

Dec. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- One of our most popular military packaging (http://www.protectivepackaging.net/military-packaging) projects has made the news again. After generating buzz as a "UFO" being shipped across country on a flatbed truck, the 'stealth drone', or X-47B, has been moved again, but this time it's out to sea.

On Tuesday, November 27, the US Navy released footage of the the X-47B drone demonstrator being loaded onto the deck of the USS Harry S. Truman docked at the Norfolk Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA. The drone is set to undergo its first carrier-based testing for full integration into flight deck operations. Once the drone completes all of it's testing, it will be the first aircraft able to land on an aircraft carrier autonomously.

In our initial project with this drone, we worked with Northrop Grumann to ensure the craft would be preserved during cross country transport from California to Maryland. This time, we made a heavy duty cover for the drone during it's barge trip through the Chesapeake Bay from the Patuxent Naval Air Station to the Norfolk Naval Air Station.

The outer material you see in the images is a heavy duty, PVC coated polyester scrim product with high tensile strength. This protective cover is custom made from state of the art engineered materials designed for durable corrosion protection (http://www.protectivepackaging.net/corrosion-protection) in all types of weather. These serve as a sacrificial outer coating to protect items in storage or during transport.
