Follow on Google News | Grauer School Hosts Film Screening of Sundance Film Festival Documentary, “Miss Representation”The Grauer School will host the film screening and post-film discussion of “Miss Representation” on Thursday, January 17, 2013
Grauer School Principal Dana Abplanalp-Diggs explains, “This film depicts a growing trend in the media that demonstrates how frequently all forms of media berate the role of women in society. Ms. Newsom invites viewers to take an in-depth look at her revelations regarding gender bias in the media and why this is becoming an ever-increasing concern for parents and teenagers alike. It’s a compelling film that delivers a message that The Grauer School feels should be addressed. As the values emphasized by media are counter to the core values of The Grauer School --- an educational model that fosters leadership, resourcefulness, self-advocacy, intellectual curiosity, perseverance, compassion, and accountability in both our young women and men ---- we feel this compelling film delivers a message that needs to be addressed. We invite the public to join us for the screening and engage in a compelling discussion that will have an impact on both their sons and daughters.” The Grauer School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a member of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), and is the only school in the region to be honored as a designated UNESCO school. The school serves as an inspirational educational model that balances expeditionary learning, humanitarian service and college preparation for hundreds of private schools around the world through the Coalition of Small Preparatory Schools (CSPS) established by Founding Head, Dr. Stuart Grauer.
