Follow on Google News | Ring in the New Year with top racing action at Ayr RacecourseAyr Racecourse’s next meeting is the two-day New Year Festival on Wednesday 2 January and Thursday 3 January, which promises to be an action-packed fixture.
Traditionally a well attended meeting, there will be seven races on both days, and, with some good prize money on offer, there is sure to be large fields with all the top northern stables represented. The opening day features a Class 3 Handicap Chase over two miles with £12,000 in the prize fund, and this will see some hardened battlers competing for what will be the biggest prize of the day over jumps in the UK. On Thursday the highlight is a £10,000 Handicap Hurdle over two miles and four furlongs, which will feature some of the north’s top handicap hurdlers looking to start the New Year with a bang. Ayr Racecourse sales and marketing manager Lindsey Smith commented: “We look forward to the New Year Festival every year, and, with some top prize money on offer, the racing should be very competitive. “We find that people are desperate to get out after the festive period and enjoy themselves, and there is always an excellent atmosphere.” Ayr Racecourse and the associated Western House Hotel are Founder Members of the Elite Ayrshire Business Circle.
