By: Eric J Dalius So here we are four days into the new year, and every time I have a conversation with someone they ask me about my "resolutions" Well, I don't have any resolutions. I don't believe in them. I don't like the whole idea of them. In fact, I think they're bad "mental programming" Think about the word "resolution" the word "resolve"... so a resolution is all about "resolving" to make some type of change. Now I'm all about finding the areas of your life that aren't working, and then changing those areas. And I'm all for taking this time of year to reflect on your life and where you're going. And I'm *definitely* better life for yourself. But the whole idea of resolving to yourself that you're going to wake up and magically make some change in your life - well, it just doesn't work for the huge majority of people. That's why you can't get a parking space at the gym this week - because so many people "resolve" to get in shape. Of course, two weeks from now the gym will be completely empty. So instead of a "resolution" away in months or weeks or even less... let me tell you what does work. The first thing that I've found that literally changed my life is the idea of "ritual". Some people might prefer the word "habit"... and that word will work just as well. But the idea is that if you want to create any real change, you need to start building up rituals in your life that will automatically move you towards that change. For instance, I have a "morning ritual" that's designed to set me up for a healthy and productive day... it includes stuff like hydration, hygiene, yoga, a quick core workout, meditation, and a healthy breakfast. That might sound like a lot, but because it's a ritual and I do it almost every day... I move through it quickly and efficiently. And I start every day with a strong foundation. That's my "morning ritual". I don't have to think about it. It's been carefully refined over the years. It helps keep my mind and my body strong. I don't have to "resolve" to do any of that stuff, because it's automatic. It's a ritual. That's just one of the rituals in my life. I have many others... but my life changed when I installed that morning ritual in my life. I truly cherish that ritual... because the impact it's made on my physical health, my mental health, and my productivity. End
