Drilling Cutting are created when a well is drilled  through rock to reach oil or gas reservoir. These cutting vary in size and texture,ranging from fine sand to gravel,depending on the type of rock being drilled and the type of drilling being used. To prevent the well being clogged,the cuttings are carried back to the surface by drilling fluid. On the drilling rig the cuttings are separated from drilling fluid.

Why Drilling Cutting need to be treated before discharge.

It has long been accepted that oil-based mud provide improved drilling performance compared to traditional water-based mud. Howere, The disposal of oil-based mud associated drilling cuttings can generate environmental concerns. The capability to remove oil or synthetic oil from the cuttings before disposal can significantly reduce the long-term environmental effects of disposal. In addition, effective recovery of costly oil could improve the overall economics of drilling.
