Mackinac Island Winter Festival

Jan. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- The 37th Annual Mackinac Island Winter Festival will take place February 2-3, 2013. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Mackinac Island Recreational Development (MIRD).  MIRD raises money through the sale of the annual Seasons of Mackinac calendar and the festival to support the recreational needs of Mackinac Island residents.They maintain a strong focus on providing equipment for recreational activities year 'round for the residents of Mackinac Island. In the past MIRD has raised funds to provide playground equipment, cross country skis for use at the school and have provided funding for the purchase of ski trail grooming equipment for the Mackinac Island Ski Club.

Festivities including broom hockey, snow bowling, snow golf, cardboard sledding contests, children's games and more at Great Turtle Park, the community recreation facility in the center of the Island. Evening events for children and teens are also being organized. Mackinac Island Public School is home to the calendar photo contest, raffles, silent auctions, archery, poker run, snow vollyeball, bingo and the kid's carnival.
