Follow on Google News | Environmental Hygienists Introduce New “Get Rid of Mold at Work” for Offices and WorkplacesEnvironmental Hygienists warn that employee exposure to elevated levels of mold and mold-caused volatile organic compounds in the office and workplace can cause severe health problems.
By: Environmental Hygienists Association “Toxic mold growth and poisonous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air from the mold are often hidden inside office and workplace heating and cooling equipment and ducts, walls, ceilings, attics, and elsewhere. Toxic mold and mold VOCs are major health hazards and threats for company employees and business visitors,” warn Phillip Fry and Hank Taylor, Certified Environmental Hygienists, Certified Mold Inspectors, Certified Mold Remediators, and Certified Ozone Professionals. Exposure to elevated levels of toxic mold and mold VOCs at work leads to a wide variety of serious health problems for exposed employees and business customers. According to the environmental hygienists’ website www.moldinspector.com, the top dozen office and workplace mold health problems are: 1. Asthma, asthma triggers, or asthma symptoms (such as episodes or attacks); 2. Upper respiratory tract symptoms; 3. Eye symptoms; 4. Skin symptoms; 5. Allergies or allergic reactions; 6. Wheeze; 7. Cough; 8. Difficulty breathing, trouble breathing, or shortness of breath; 9. Infections (including those affecting people who have chronic lung disease); 10. Adverse effects to the nervous system; 11. Fungal colonization or opportunistic infections in immune-compromised individuals; 12. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis.
