ANCESTOR Of Chinese Bank---Pingyao Rishengchang Exchange Shop

Jan. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Regarded as the ancestor of Chinese Bank,Richangshen Exchange Shop (Piaohao) was founded in 1823 of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).The headquarters was situated at Pingyao old town with an area of 1,600 square meters.It is the first private financial organization of China doing deposit schemes, loans and remittance services. More than 35 branches stretch widely all over China,especially in some big commercial cities. The business which began 108 years ago is playing an important role in the development of civil economy and industries.

Rishengchang Exchange Shop was completely restored in 1995.It has around 20 rooms at 3 courtyards on a north-south central axis. In the front of the compound, five rooms facing the street served as the shop gate. The plaque carved with shop name hangs in central position above the 5 rooms. The counters are arranged on either side of the front yard. The exchange center where the primary operations are carried out is housed by 3 rooms in the middle courtyard. Guest rooms are built in the wings beside the main hall. In the back court there are five main halls as the accommodation for the senior staff and VIP customers.

For security, a net made up with tiny metal threads covered the top of the whole compound. Small bells were seted on the net to make an alert when someone tried to enter the compound.
