Nina & Pinta Replicas Coming to Naples in March 2013

Jan. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Experience history firsthand when replicas of Christopher Columbus’ ships Nina and Pinta dock at Tin City from March 5th through the 18th. While in port, the general public is invited to tour the ships.

The ‘Nina’ was built completely by hand and without the use of power tools, and was called by Archaeology magazine “the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built.” The craftsmanship and the details in the rigging make it a truly fascinating visit back to the Age of Discovery. The ‘Nina’ was used in the production of the film ‘1492’ starring Gerard Depardieu and directed by Ridley Scott.

General admissions are  $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (age 60+), $6 for children ages 5-16 and children 4 and under are free. The ships are open daily while in port from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Groups of 15 or more are invited to schedule a 30 minute guided tour with a crewmember on any weekday. The forces behind getting these monumental ships to Naples, specifically Tin City, Captains Lance and Harry Julian of Pure Naples have worked closely with the Freedom Waters Foundation (FWF). The Foundation will be volunteering to man the operations of the ships for the duration of their dockage.
