When homebuilders from around the country gathered last week to honor the best in the business, three San Diego firms combined to earn a significant share of the honors. During ceremonies at The Nationals (http://www.thenationals.com/pages/2013awards.php) awards - the nation’s largest and most prestigious competition for sales and marketing professionals and communities – local companies Shea Homes San Diego, Davidson Communities and Design Line Interiors were among the night’s marquee honorees.

Here is a list of awards won by these three venerable San Diego firms:

Shea Homes San Diego emerged with five gold medal first place awards for its contemporary new urban community, Origen (http://www.sheahomes.com/newhomes/sandiego/origen/) at Civita in Mission Valley, including one of evening’s top honors, Neighborhood of the Year.

Other gold medal first place honors were presented to Origen for:

• Best Sales Center -- Shea Homes San Diego, shared with Design Line Interiors

• Best Interior Merchandising of a Model Under 1,500 Square Feet for Origen socialGarden plan 1 -- Shea Homes San Diego

• Best Interior Merchandising of a Model from 1,500-2,000 Square Feet for Origen skyLoft plan 1 -- Shea Homes San Diego, shared with Design Line Interiors

• Best Architectural Design of an Attached Home Plan for Origen socialGarden plan 1 -- Shea Homes San Diego, shared with Woodley Architectural Group

Last fall, Origen was honored as the Best New Home Community in San Diego (https://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/sep/15/icons-named-e...) by the Building Industry Association (BIA) of San Diego, and as Community of the Year in attached housing (http://www.thesocalawards.com/) by Its affiliated chapter, the BIA of Southern California.

Designed by Woodley Architectural Group (http://www.woodleyarchitecture.com/) with interior merchandising by Design Line Interiors (http://www.designlineinteriors.com/), Origen offers 200 three- and four-story loft-style town homes in two distinct new neighborhoods -- Origen socialGarden (http://www.sheahomes.com/community/socialgarden/) and Origen skyLoft (http://www.sheahomes.com/community/skyloft/).  Origen opened in December 2011 as the first new residential community within Civita (http://www.civitalife.com), whose plans call for 4,780 residential homes and apartments, approximately 480,000 square feet for a lifestyle retail center and 420,000 square feet for an office/business campus over the next 10-15 years.

Davidson Communities (http://www.davidsoncommunities.com/) was honored for design excellence at two new home communities in San Diego.

Davidson Communities walked away from the 32nd annual Nationals awards with a gold and silver award in the same category. For Best Merchandising of a Model, 2,500-3,500 Square Feet, Davidson won first place honors for Arista at The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe (http://www.davidsoncommunities.com/find-a-home/arista-at-the-crosby/) and second place for Maricel at Torrey Highlands (http://www.davidsoncommunities.com/find-a-home/maricel-at-torrey-highlands/).

Davidson also won a second place silver award for Best Sales Center for Arista, where a large wall weaves a unique builder’s story with the artifacts and photos illustrating the aesthetic and design culture of the builder. Del Mar-based Design Line Interiors (http://www.designlineinteriors.com/) was honored for its work at both Arista and Maricel.

These national awards continue the string of honors for Arista, which last year was named best new detached community in San Diego by the local Building Industry Association (BIA).  In over 30 years of building in San Diego, Davidson has been recognized for creating the area’s best new home community beginning in 1980 with Davidson’s Leucadia Village. Other top winners for Davidson include Pointe Del Mar, Blackhorse La Jolla, Mt. Woodson, Cielo and Davidson at Santaluz.

Design Line Interiors (http://www.designlineinteriors.com/) of Del Mar also had a strong showing at The Nationals, with four first place gold awards and two second place silver awards for design excellence, as noted above.

“We took some risks with these particular models and sales offices and clearly the judges saw the value in breaking from tradition,” said Dawn Davidson, president of Design Line Interiors. “For example, there is no dining room in the Plan 1 at Arista. Instead we designed an oversized gourmet island that can seat up to 10 people, which works perfectly for either casual family dining, entertaining, or as a homework station for kids. This is the kind of innovation that our builders embraced this past year.”
