Follow on Google News | Metric Announces Launch of the Super Staple™ ClassicMetric Medical Devices, Inc. announces launch of the Super Staple™ Classic for use in surgery across the U.S. The Super Staple™ Classic is a bone implant developed to yield instant, uniform fixation by continuously compressing bone for healing.
Metric’s initial flagship product, the Super Staple™ Classic, is an implant developed to yield immediate, secure fixation by continuously compressing bone for healing. Engineered with an S-shaped bridge that “shrinks” and legs that “close,” the staple is capable of applying force across the entire fusion interface. The Super Staple™ Classic is intended for hand and foot bone fragment and osteotomy fixation as well as joint arthrodesis. “Leveraging both the super-elastic and shape changing properties of nitinol, this implant is designed to provide the highest and most uniform compression force and pull-out resistance of any staple in bone,” said W. Casey Fox, Ph.D., P.E., founder and CEO of Metric, referencing the FDA 510(k) data. “The Super Staple™ Classic changes shape instantaneously without heating or cooling thus avoiding electrical heating instrumentation and the effort required to freeze an implant prior to use in the operating room,” he added. Metric pre-loads the temperature independent Super Staple™ Classic in a specially engineered instrument, which minimizes the number of surgical steps for implantation and reduces procedural time. The pre-loaded insertion instrument is packaged in a pre-sterilized, all-in-one kit providing both a convenient, cost effective bone-fixation solution for the physician, surgery facility and staff. The Super Staple™ Classic, plus its accessories, recently received FDA clearance to market, and as part of kickoff activities, Metric is featuring the Super Staple™ Classic Kit at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) 71st Annual Scientific Conference taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dates for the exhibit are February 11 through February 13, 2013 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Convention Center, and Metric’s booth number is 617. Metric Medical Devices, Inc. began operations in 2011 and staffs a group of individuals experienced in the orthopaedic extremity market. Plans are underway to launch a family of shape changing internal fixation implants that enhance hand, foot, and ankle skeletal repair.
