Metric Launches Intramedullary Fixation Scaffold for Inter-digital Fusion

SAN ANTONIO - Feb. 11, 2016 - PRLog -- Metric Medical Devices, Inc., an orthopedic extremity company producing technically advanced internal bone fixation implants, announces the U.S. market availability of its new Intramedullary Fixation Scaffold (IFS™) system.

The IFS™ is a cylindrical intramedullary bone fixation implant and ingrowth scaffold, intended for small bone repair such as inter-digital fusion in fingers and toes.  The device is fabricated from shape changing nitinol and is instantaneously active when implanted.

“The patent pending design of the IFS™ exerts high bone fixation forces, locks into and pulls bones together while healing,” said W. Casey Fox, Ph.D., P.E., founder and CEO of Metric.  “This design also allows for bone ingrowth and can be used with k-wires to fix adjacent joints. The IFS™ is the only intramedullary device that has the ability to shorten itself to pull bones together thus minimizing gap formation,” he added.

Similar to the company’s first product, the Super Staple™ Classic, the IFS™ implant is pre-loaded in an intuitive, easy-to-use insertion instrument and comes in a convenient, sterile kit that includes the necessary instruments to prepare the surgical site, implant the IFS™, and fixate adjacent joints.

The IFS™ system recently received FDA clearance to market, and Metric is unveiling the IFS™ at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons® Annual Scientific Conference in Austin, Texas, February 11 - 13, Booth #1413.
