By: www.entriguemagazine.com MB: Growing up did you see yourself becoming a chef or was it a farfetched idea that never even crossed your mind? SR: No it wasn’t a farfetched idea because cooking was something I always liked to do and it is something that runs in my family. Growing up we had our own restaurants. I use to bake for my grandmother all the time. MB:When did you first get the idea to mix alcohol in cake batter & did you like how your first batch came out? SR:Years ago, back in 2005, when I was living in Brooklyn NY rum cake was a big seller then. I figured I would put a twist on it and I created a Henny cake and I also created a Remy Red Velvet cake an ooh boy, it was so good. The feedback I received was even better than I expected and so that is when I knew I had something very special here. I then decided to launch my company “GET CAKE”. MB: This may sound funny but I have to ask this question. Can a person get tipsy if they indulge themselves in your treats? SR: {Laughter} Yes silly, each slice is shy of two shots and each cupcake is shy of a shot. MB: Have you thought of partnering with any major Liquor companies? SR: Well yes. I have already done partnership with other companies and I still do from time to time when they hold brand or product events and I’m hired to cater that event. I then use that product that is being promoted to sweeten up the night. {laughter} MB: Did you find it hard to brand “GET CAKE” and who was your first celebrity client? SR: Wow that is a good one. First, no I didn’t find it hard to brand “Get Cake” because I built a strong team from the start. My first client, I believe was Vivica A. Fox and I would have to say my most memorable client was Dr. Martin Luther King’s only granddaughter during her party celebrating her second birthday. It was truly an Honor.
