Feb. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- As a result of rising consumer awareness, reducing the carbon footprint has become a key focus area for many organizations. A carbon footprint helps to assess the impact people and businesses have on the environment. It measures the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced by different activities. By knowing the carbon footprint of products and the organization, it is easier to develop a carbon reduction and carbon neutral strategy.

Each product carbon footprint is unique and calculated by identifying key stages in the lifecycle of the product and by measuring the energy used and calculating the carbon emissions. Then, total greenhouse gases are added to get the carbon footprint of a product.

SGS has always been at the forefront of environmental business solutions that enable clients to reduce their environmental impact. The SGS Carbon Footprint Marks (PCF Marks) help to demonstrate a company’s commitment to evaluating and/or reducing its impact on the climate.

“PCF Marks” Launch Ceremony

On the occasion of the official service launch in India, SGS awarded the first Indian companies Armstrong (http://www.armstrongknittingmills.com/), a leading export house based in Tirupur, and Fusion Clothing (http://www.douspeakgreen.in), a Mumbai based textile company, by handing over of the first SGS Carbon Footprint Marks. The official ceremony took place in Tirupur in January 2013. There the first PCF Marks were handed over by Dr. Sudhir Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & Director, CTS & Agriculture Services, SGS India. This was followed by a technical session on Sustainability and Climate Change by Mr. Vinod Kumar, Manager, Sustainability services, CTS, SGS India.

Displaying the SGS Carbon Footprint Mark on their consumer product packaging (textiles, food products, electronics, toys, packaging, automotive, electronics, construction, cement, rubber/tires and furniture, etc.) will help organizations improve their reputation and brand image and increase customers’ loyalty in any market around the world.
