Global Pharmacy Canada Response to Health Canada Warning of July 2010

In July 2010, Health Canada issued a press release about the “potential dangers of buying prescription drugs from www.globalpharmacycanada.com. In this press release, Health Canada made several misleading, prejudicial and incorrect statements about Global Pharmacy Canada.

To begin with, the heading and beginning paragraph of their press release warns Canadians of “potential” dangers of buying medicines from the company. Health Canada has presented no evidence of any kind to suggest that medicine supplied by the company’s contract pharmacies are in any way unsafe. Health Canada seems to imply that because the medicines supplied are regulated by other countries, instead of by Health Canada, the medicines therefore are unsafe. All of the pharmacies contracted by Global Pharmacy Canada are fully licensed and regulated in the countries where the medicines are dispensed. All the medicines supplied are local government-approved and have been dispensed by licensed pharmacies regulated in Europe, Asia and/or the North America. There is nothing unsafe about the medicine, and Health Canada has not presented any evidence to the contrary.

Health Canada goes on in the press release to make the statement that it is unsafe for people to take prescription drugs without being under the care of a medical practitioner. Global Pharmacy Canada completely agrees with this statement. However, this statement in this press release is not relevant to the company and its operation. In particular, Global Pharmacy Canada strictly requires a prescription from the customer’s own doctor for every order. Therefore, every customer placing an order with the company is under the care of a medical practitioner.

In the press release Health Canada also makes the following statement:

“Consumers should also be aware that there is no assurance that all claims made on the internet that a particular site is Canadian and / or a pharmacy, are reliable.”

This statement was made in general terms and was not directed specifically at Global Pharmacy Canada. However, at no time has Global Pharmacy Canada ever made the claim that it is a pharmacy itself. The company is very clear in its marketing brochures and in its order terms and conditions that the company is NOT a pharmacy, but that it contracts with licensed pharmacies around the world. The company is also upfront about the origin of the medicines it supplies. Throughout the company’s website and marketing brochures, Global Pharmacy Canada explains that the supplying pharmacies are located overseas and that the source of the medicine comes from manufacturers in other countries. The company makes this fact very clear, not in the fine print, but in bold headings on its brochures and website home page.

Global Pharmacy Canada’s connection to Canada is based on the fact that when the company commenced operations, it initially contracted with a Canadian pharmacy for dispensing medicines; hence the word “Canada” in the name. The company’s mission has always been to source high quality, low cost medicine from licensed pharmacies around the world. This is the reason for the word “Global” in the name. In 2007/2008, when pricing in Canada was no longer competitive on the world market, the company, being true to its mission, sought out licensed pharmacies in other countries where prices were more competitive.

Throughout the company’s history, Global Pharmacy Canada has been transparent in its communications with customers and potential customers.
