Campaign to recruit 100,000 single mothers into nursing gets a major boost

Nurses Roc CEO Mona Clayton, RN to be one of the featured speakers at event sponsored by Gannett.

March 6, 2013 - PRLog -- When Mona Clayton, RN decided to write her first book, “Surviving The Journey from Student To Nurse as Painlessly As Possible” in 2007 her plan was to help those aspiring to become future nurses. Little did she know that she was on her way to becoming an advocate for single mothers worldwide.

She chronicled her own experiences dealing with divorce, motherhood, and the nursing program in the hopes it would ease some of the tension felt by nursing students.  “When you are in the nursing program and issues are going on around you, you begin to feel as if you are the only person in the world dealing with those problems,” said Ms. Clayton.

As a result of the book’s success, Ms. Clayton launched the “Surviving The Journey” Seminar tour with the goal of speaking directly to nursing students and recruiting 100,000 single mothers into the nursing profession.  This lofty goal got the attention of “Nurse.com Magazine” (whose parent company “Gannett” is a worldwide leader in information and media, reaching more than 150 million daily readers.)  Ms. Clayton was featured in their November 2012 issue and because of the popularity of the article she was signed as one of the featured presenters at the upcoming “Nurse.com Career Fair” at the Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa on March 21, 2013.

“The national career fair is designed to introduce experienced, licensed RNs to regional and national recruiters,” according to the Nurse.com information sheet.

Ms. Clayton will host three separate seminars at the fair beginning at 9:00 am.  The topics she will discuss are, “Creating A Winning Work Environment,” “Today Is A Great Day To Be Great,” and  “Is Entrepreneurship for You?” all designed for the nursing professional as well as the nursing student.

“I appreciate the opportunity Gannett has given me to be a presenter at the career fair.  I am excited about the possibilities that can arise from being associated with a worldwide leader.  Not only will I share information with my peers, this platform will give more exposure to my campaign to motivate single mothers,” stated Ms. Clayton.
