Cultivating Hope for Cambodia's Children Event

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - March 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Our community is making a big difference in the lives of children in rural Cambodia, half a world away. For every 1,000 babies born in Cambodia, 95 die in their first year - one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world. One in every eight Cambodian children dies between birth and age 5. Those who survive to school age have limited educational opportunities, which perpetuates the cycle of poverty, disease and death.

The Gainesville/Alachua community, together with the Rotary Club of Gainesville, is changing the lives of thousands of Cambodian children and their families. Clean water and sanitation, nutrition programs, and schools with over 3,500 students are cultivating healthy, educated young people who now have a hopeful future. And Sustainable Cambodia’s unique model is much more than “aid” - it empowers the villager families through sustainable economic development, education and training.

On April 26th, 2013, the Rotary Club of Gainesville and Sustainable Cambodia will be hosting the Cultivating Hope Event at the Rembert Farm in Alachua, FL.   Along with dinner, a silent auction and live music, this event will feature some of the brightest students in our Cambodian schools.   There will be video case studies and using Skype, you’ll be able to talk to our student’s teachers live from Cambodia.

Proceeds from this event will empower children and families with:

•   quality academic, vocational training and family support services
•   quality health and sanitation services
•   food security and clean water

If you are interested in learning more about this event, please visit our website to register, purchase tickets or become a sponsor/auction donor.
