In contrast to its laid-back appeal as a perfect sun, sand and sea destination, Aruba has introduced a new event – The Aruba Xtreme Event 2013, running from April 2 to 7. Hundreds of sportsmen and women, including a number of world champions, from around the globe are expected to take part in multiple competitions and age categories, competing for titles and cash prizes. Four extreme sports are the focus of the event: BMX bike racing, kite surfing, skateboarding and freestyle windsurfing. Several other smaller beach-related sports will be staged simultaneously, including beach-volleyball, beach tennis, kayaking and paddleboard races. Competitions will be supplemented by other activities and entertainment for all ages. Clinics and workshops will also be staged, together with food and drinks served on beaches. This new event is backed by Aruba’s Ministry of Sport and Health. For more information on the competition and schedules, please visit www.aruba-xtreme.com. Located on the edge of the hurricane belt, with a nine mile stretch of award-winning pristine beach, turquoise seas, colonial Dutch architecture and a Latin vibe; Aruba is a delightful alternative Caribbean experience. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines operates to Aruba five times a week this winter, with departures from 15 UK airports via its international hub at Amsterdam Schiphol. Thomson Airways will operate weekly charter departures from London Gatwick from May to October. Leading tour operators offering packages to Aruba include Thomson Holidays, First Choice, Kuoni, Tropical Sky and Kenwood Travel. End
