North Highland and Highland Worldwide Support MISI-ZIIBI: Living with the Great Rivers Conference

The North Highland Company, a global consulting company is pleased to announce that Pim Njissen, a Principal with their Dutch Highland Worldwide partner, Twynstra Gudde, has been selected as a presenter to present at upcoming conference, “MISI-ZIIBI: Living with the Great Rivers:  Climate Adaptation Strategies in the Midwest River Basins”, hosted by the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis, March 22-25, 2013.

MISI-ZIIBI: Living with the Great Rivers will be the first in a series of workshops to develop integrated, innovative approaches for adapting to climate challenges along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Initially focusing on the St. Louis bi-state region, the goal of this first workshop is to begin the creation of a broad-based set of environmentally focused community planning scenarios that can eventually be transferable to other Midwestern cities. The Royal Netherlands Embassy in Washington D.C. is co-sponsoring this workshop with Washington University in St. Louis. It will bring experts from The Netherlands’ current Room for the River program – an innovative program that directly addresses the unique planning needs of river-based communities such as St. Louis.  Factoring in key concerns such as climate change, flood protection and drought tolerance, the Room for the River program was designed to create a planning framework that balances the development needs of communities with the equally important needs of preserving and improving the environmental conditions along their rivers.
