NFL Linebacker Alvin Bowen Signs With Canadian Football League Team Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnage announced that Alvin 'Ace' Bowen (http://www.stampeders.com/roster/show/id/4803) would be signed as an import linebacker following his position in the NFL from the Denver Broncos.
The 29 year old New Jersey native who is currently a free agent in the NFL, attended college at Iowa State where he played three seasons during his junior year. He recorded 155 tackles (finishing first place in the nation) one interception and one fumble recovery. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round in 2008, he suffered a knee injury during training camp and was waived from the team. He also played two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2010. When asked how he feels about being given the opportunity to play again when most would say it is too late he states "I feel extremely blessed, football has always been what I lived for & I am looking forward to being back on the field". Alvin is also currently working on his non-profit organization 'The Alvin Bowen Foundation' expected to launch this Fall that will target inner city youth in group homes with big brother mentoring programs and scholarship opportunities. Alvin says "I have been given this platform where I have the chance to be a voice of reason to those who are growing up in poverty and feel they have no escape, I too have wanted to give up at times, I want to empower them and let them know that they can make it no matter what the circumstance".
