Georgia Youth Rugby Association (GYRA) Founding Member Emerges Triumphant at 2013 Carolina Rugger

ATLANTA - March 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Competing in the prestigious Carolina Ruggerfest, the Phoenix Rugby Club came away from the tournament with two championship trophies in Charlotte, NC. Representing the GYRA the Phoenix competed amongst 36 youth clubs in the nationally renowned annual tournament with teams entered in both the U-19 and U-15 divisions. Both teams went undefeated when matched up against teams from NC, PA & NJ. During the event the U-19 team amassed 106 points in three matches conceding only 24 points while their U-15 counterparts in their two matches accumulated 79 points and conceded only 15 points.

“Our boys played very well and put in consistent performances over the entire weekend. They displayed Georgia Youth Rugby at its very best and represented the GYRA very effectively during the course of the tournament both on and off the field,” offered Jim Turner, GYRA League Commissioner. “Led by head coach Darden Couch, the success achieved at the Ruggerfest is the result of all the hard work put in by players and coaches alike during their practices this season.”

Back home in Atlanta the GYRA teams, Walton Raiders, Lambert High School, Kennesaw Mountain High School and along with the Phoenix, continue with their regular season leading to playoff and a state championship with the goal of earning a spot in the 2013 USA South Regional championship.
