By: Mark SQuared Productions "The Carousel" is a poetry based musical stage play which opens in Metro Atlanta's Orange Box Theatre on April 19. The play is written, directed, and scored by Herbert Bowens, a professional dancer and musician who has performed in popular full-length films "Drumline" and "Stomp the Yard", as well as Amateur Night at the Apollo and the TV musical variety series "Dance Fever". The Orange Box Theatre is a new, intimate black box theatre with a cutting-edge design that positions the actors in close proximity to the audience, creating a powerful and intense theatrical experience for audience and actors alike. The venue, which is located in Clarkston, North Decatur, Georgia at 3550 Clarkston Industrial Blvd in Suite H-G, is capable of holding 90 people and hosts everything from close conversations to large cast musicals. The theatre is a hot spot on the Atlanta Calendar of Events and is used a classroom for acting, directing and lectures in addition to plays and musicals. "The Carousel" tells the story of Cierra--a creative young woman who can't seem to live up to her full potential--when she is transported to The Carousel, a magical place for unfulfilled dreams. While discovering The Carousel, Cierra meets Ma Stanza and other Carousel inhabitants who inspire her to finish what she starts, believe in her dreams, and fight to find her voice in life. However, before she can return home, Cierra must utilize her poetry and rhyming skills to outwit a poetry slam team in the most critical and challenging battle of her life. "The Carousel" combines elements of music, poetry, and dance to portray its dynamic story. "The Carousel" features award winning musician, songwriter, author and spoken word artist Abyss Graham, who has made appearances in season one of HBO's original series Def Poetry (for which he won a Peabody award), BET's 106th & Park, and BET's first scripted sitcom "Somebodies" <iframe width="560" height="315" End
