By: Christian Counselling Victoria For thousands of years the sayings and teaching of Jesus have given a deep sense of inner peace and hope to face life challenges, depression, addiction, other mental distress, and even death. Here are some brief examples of encouraging words from Jesus. PEACE NOW “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 HOPE IN DEATH Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3 FORGIVENESS AND NEW LIFE These teaching from Jesus first followers chosen by Jesus, tell us how we can receive the promises of forgiveness, the Holy Spirit to live within, new life, and even eternal life. New life in this world may have trouble and adversity, but we are promised that everything will result in a positive outcome. Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38 “...baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge to keep a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ...” 1 Peter 3:21 “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:4 HOPE, JOY, PEACE, SALVATION “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:8-9 To begin this new life and enjoy the promises of God, go to http://www.counseling24hours.com or phone the author at 778-433-1547 Being part of a faith community helps to strengthen your own faith so that you have a stronger sense of hope and meaning, support and belonging, and a foundation of values and beliefs for making healthy choices in life.
