8 Sided Films Presents 8x8 Screenwriting Competition

LOS ANGELES - April 12, 2013 - PRLog -- 8 Sided Films founder Tennyson E. Stead announced a call for entries earlier this week on behalf of the 8x8 Screenplay Competition, established by 8 Sided principals Stead, Gerard Marzilli, and Malise Hulme to promote creative, independent approaches to genre film.  Competition is open to writers, directors, and producers looking to develop microbudget genre cinema, and one Grand Prize winner will receive a development support package from 8 Sided Films which includes an offer for platform theatrical distribution.  “As a writer and director myself, I’ve worked hard to build our company on a relentless commitment to our craft, our community, and our audience,” explains Stead.  “When other filmmakers ask me how we get support from movie theaters and industry professionals for our projects, that’s what I tell them... and of course, that’s always the wrong answer.  Everyone, myself included, wants to find that magic silver bullet that does the work for them!”

“Many filmmakers look at the creative and financial elements of business as opposing forces, and they’re not,” Stead continues.  “Walking another screenwriter through the development process is a great opportunity to demystify the business and empower filmmakers.”  In addition to twenty years of experience telling stories on stage and screen, Stead informs 8 Sided Films with a decade of work in independent development and film finance. “We’re not just going to cut whoever wins this thing loose with a handful of promises,” Stead concludes.  “We’re going to teach them how to use these tools effectively and ethically.  It’s a lot of work, both for us and for the winning screenwriter, and it’s the kind of work that makes the entire independent film community stronger.”
