Classic Yacht Argyll takes up Panerai Regatta challenge

CANNES, France - April 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Argyll has hit the classic yacht race circuit on the Cote D'Azur this year. Exciting challenges and great racing lie ahead for her. And for the first time in 2013, she is open to charter and crew opportunity. Owner Griff Rhys-Jones is taking Argyll to Ajaccio Corsica in May to start the season. Legend has it that this one of the most entertaining of all Mediterranean regattas, with beach parties and a winningly informal style, but good racing in what are often strong and exciting winds. The boat will be going across from Cannes on the weekend of the nineteenth to twentieth and we are looking for crew to join us.

Argyll is a very elegant and classic cruiser/racing yacht, with endless white sails and soft cushioning wood, making her one of the most dramatic sights on the glorious Cote D'Azur. Designed by Olin Stephens and built by Simms Brothers of Massachusetts USA in 1948. She was design no. 628 from Sparkman & Stephens, described on her lines plan as a ‘40ft 0in LWL Aux. Yawl for W.T. Moore’. The drawing is dated 2/13/46. She is 57’ 4½’ overall, with a beam of 12’9’ and draught of 8’0’. She was, according to Olin Stephens, a development of the previous year’s Bermuda race winner, Gesture, and was known to be one of his favourites.

Argyll is a regular competitor on the Mediterranean Classic Yacht Regatta Circuit, winning races and exchanging trophies with top racing boats such as Skylark and Stormy Weather. Come and join our team, or make up a team of your own and take the whole boat. She needs up to 12 to race.
