By: ButtaLoveMusic In 2005, Fabianna Pergolizzi had received a calendar from CAPS (Children's Abuse Preventive Services) that had enclosed information about a survey that CAPS had conducted in Long Island, New York that found the prevalence of bullying within their district. Motivated through her own bullying experiences, Fabianna Pergolizzi had decided to contact CAPS and ask to reproduce the same study within her own area Naples, FL within the 7th and 8th grade in her old middle school. She had also encouraged her friends Darren Richmond (Florida), Samantha Macario (California) By August 2006, Fabianna and Darren had collaborated together and collectively created an abstract with all of their results. Their results found that 86% of students daily were being bullied physically, emotionally, or mentally within their schools. In September of 2006, Project Anti-Bully had sent the abstract to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) with the hopes of Project Anti-Bully being able to present at the 160th Annual Conference in San Diego. Project Anti-Bully currently has three medical publications in the Journal of Medicine (2009), The Journal of School Violence (2008), and The International Journal of Adolescence Health (2011). By January of 2007, Fabianna and Darren were officially accepted to present at the American Psychiatric Association, in May. Fabianna (first author), her Father Dr. Joseph Pergolizzi, Darren Richmond (second author) and his mother Dr. Charlotte Richmond, all attended the conference in San Diego. As Fabianna and Darren were presenting their findings, many well known persons were utterly shocked by their age of 16. At the end of their presentation, Fabianna was recognized as the youngest presenter in 160-year history of the APA, which was an extreme accomplishment. All of the investigators in Project Anti-Bully have been acknowledged for their courage to stand up against bullying by finding the prevalence of bullying in middle schools. Because of their efforts the members of Project Anti-Bully had received much media and press recognition. Fabianna had created Projet Anti-Bully's website in 2006, http://projectantibully.com In 2007, Project Anti-Bully was accepted for a poster presentation for their second-year follow-up study in Boston, Massachusetts at the American Psychological Association's annual conference in August. Project Anti-Bully's second follow-up study had included additional schools and additional authors, however their results where shown to be consistent with a prevalence of 86% of students being bullied daily. In 2008 Fabianna and her team had received international recognition for their research when they were invited to present at the British Psychological Association at the Trinity College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland.
