The Salinas Community Unites to Prepare Student for the Workforce

Career Extravaganza! to be held at the Boys & Girls Clubs Club of Monterey County
 
MONTEREY, Calif. - April 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County, Salinas Unified High School District, & Leadership Salinas Valley is again collaborating to offer the 7th Annual The Future is Now! Career Extravaganza!  This free event will be held on Friday May 10th from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County Salinas Club located at 85 Maryal Drive in Salinas.  Three hundred Freshmen and Sophomore students from all Salinas High Schools as well as students from Seaside, Castroville and Gonzales are expected to participate.   Special appreciation to Dole and Union Bank for sponsoring this event.

The Future is Now! Career Extravaganza! will inspire and inform local youth on the power of making positive choices today in order to achieve successful future outcomes. This is also an excellent opportunity for local businesses and community partners to show their support of the youth of Monterey County through their participation and sharing of industry knowledge.  

This unique community event features Keynote Speakers:  Joseph Gunter- Mayor of Salinas, Abigail Portillo, BGCMC Youth of the Year – Salinas Clubhouse, and back by popular demand, Eric LoMonaco - the Director of Radiology at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula.  Students will also have direct interaction with a variety of professionals from local businesses and organizations such as Dole, Union Bank, California State University Monterey Bay and Monterey Bay Aquarium as they participate in Career Exploration Panels, Workshops and a Community Resource Fair which includes an opportunity to experience first hand being a KION News Broadcaster.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) has played an integral role in the community for 45 years.  With Clubhouses in Seaside and Salinas, BGCMC provides youth between the ages of 6-18 an afterschool safe haven where they are mentored to achieve academic success, acquire healthy lifestyles, and develop good character and citizenship.  Over 95% of the total budget comes from generous individuals, corporations and foundations.
