Live Healthy! Stay Healthy! concludes with a Family Walk on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Monterey Peninsula College track from 9am-11:30am. This event will help celebrate everyone’s success in completing the program as well as encourage everyone in the community to join us and walk together to a start of a healthier life. BGCMC will provide free transportation for the Walk. Spaces is limited, so please contact Marylu Javier at mjavier@bgcmc.org or call at 831-394-5171, if you’re interested in attending the Family Walk event and would like transportation. Families also have the option to meet us at the event. Previous events include a Family Fitness Night that was held February 28, 2013 at the Seaside Clubhouse. This event included a fun exercise activity, a nutrition presentation by the Monterey County Health Department, and a salad bar for the whole family to enjoy. On March 2, 2013, BGCMC and Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District hosted a Family Hike at the Palo Corona Regional State Park in Carmel. During the Family Hike, families gained knowledge about nature and the park’s history, while learning how to stay healthy and active. About Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) has played an integral role in the community for 45 years. With Clubhouses in Seaside and Salinas, BGCMC provides youth between the ages of 6-18 an afterschool safe haven where they are mentored to achieve academic success, acquire healthy lifestyles, and develop good character and citizenship. Over 95% of the total budget comes from generous individuals, corporations and foundations. The Clubs are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. during summer and school breaks, and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. when school is in session.
