Follow on Google News | Modern Martial Arts NYC Opens New School in Stuyvesant TownMario Guerrero, owner and founder of Modern Martial Arts NYC, is opening his fifth marital arts school in Stuyvesant Town.
Owner and founder Mario Guerrero currently oversees four successful martial arts schools in Manhattan, in addition to having partnerships with many elementary schools around the city. Guerrero sees an opportunity for the growth of a fifth program in Stuyvesant Town, and cites this space as an opportunity to better understand the needs of the community. “It’s an introductory program to gauge the demand. We will quickly look to expand if the program is successful.” The construction of the second avenue subway line marks a formal recognition of Manhattan’s families moving into the neighborhoods closer to the east river. But not a lot of afterschool programs have followed their lead. Modern Martial Arts is trying to stay ahead of the trend by opening an introductory program in the neighborhood. Guerrero recognizes a demand for after school activities that are located east of third avenue. “Right now these kids have to take long treks in order to reach their afterschool programs, and we are hoping that opening our space on First Avenue will meet the needs of the neighborhood.” Guerrero plans to officially open classes on May 1st. He currently shares a space with Beehives and Buzzcuts, a hair salon. Guerrero believes that Stuyvesant Town has been an “underserved community for way too many years.” He hopes that his program is able to enrich and change the lives of its children and their families. The new space is located at 365 First Avenue, between 21st and 22nd streets. The classes will include ages 3 through 12. There will be special introductory pricing available.
