Charter School Empowers Community To Help Fight Childhood Obesity, Hosts Free Fitness Event

May 7, 2013 - PRLog -- San Diego’s 1st Annual Fitness and Field Day will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Hosted by Empower Charter School, this event will be launched to bring the community together with a variety of free, fun, fitness activities for the entire family to enjoy.

This all-volunteer effort is to create awareness for Empower Charter School, a free, public school, which is unique in its focus on fitness and health and aims to be a community resource to equip parents and children in today's era of rampant childhood obesity.

"Childhood obesity affects 1 in 3 children...." says Jessica Muto, secretary for Empower Charter School, "while most schools have cut PE, we plan to integrate fitness and health into our curriculum. We are holding this free event to show people that they can interact and have fun with their families outdoors, and they don't need fancy equipment to be active and have fun with their kids- much like our school will teach. "

Empower Charter School plans to submit its petition for approval to San Diego Unified School District in Fall 2013 with a plan to open in Fall 2014. They will offer a spanish immersion program and innovative curriculum to children in grades Kindergarten through 5. Their goal is to empower the genius and superhero in every child.
