Athletes For Education Awarded $25,000 Grant From Alliance Healthcare Foundation

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - May 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Athletes for Education (AFE) announced that a $25,000 Mission Support Grant has been awarded to AFE from the Alliance Healthcare Foundation. Alliance Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a nonprofit organization working to advance health and wellness for those in need in San Diego and Imperial Counties. AFE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of current and former professional athletes, entertainers, business and community leaders established to help youth help themselves through support and mentorship. AFE promotes children’s health and wellness, teaches teamwork and discipline, builds self-confidence, imparts life skills and directly connects hard work with incentives and rewards. In addition, AFE’s mentorship programs are designed to work in collaboration with schools and other non-profit organizations to administer team-building exercises designed to improve literacy, school attendance, and excellent citizenship, as well as promote healthy lifestyles.

More than 100 non-profit organizations applied for AHF’s Mission Support Grants program. Grant recipients were chosen through a detailed process involving AHF’s board of trustees and program committee as well as the community. Of the 24 organizations receiving grants, 16 are located in San Diego County and eight in Imperial County. “We received a record number of applications this year from many worthy organizations making the selection process quite difficult,” said Nancy Sasaki, Executive Director of Alliance Healthcare Foundation.
