By: LUXE TRAVEL™ GROUP Hoian Paper and Silk Lanterns Travelers visiting this lovely city for the first time are in for a surprise. The whole place seems to be separated from the hustle and bustle of urban living and totally untouched by the hands of time. Everything in Hoian will take you back to a long-lost peaceful history of Vietnam. On the 14th day of each month, Hoian is lit by scores of paper lanterns in different colors. This tradition, shared by both the Japanese and Chinese people, started in1998. It has captured the hearts of countless travelers from all over the world as they are taken back 300 years ago. The venues of this spectacular event is in the streets of Tran Phu, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Le Loi and Bach Dang. Where to Dine in Hoian Though itself an ancient town, Hoian is so much lively, especially at night. I have tried almost every dish and delicacies like the Bo cake, Vac cake, Cao Lau, just to name a few. A common place for travelers is a restaurant named FaiFo in Tran Phu street. The place is well-decorated and reminded me of the good old times. I’ve learned much about this place and when it comes to the food, I recommend the night market for eating out. The market has some of the best and most sumptuous dishes in Vietnam. The price is fairly cheap and the “street eating style” is totally awesome! Another good place to hang out at night or even anytime of day when the weather gets to hot is a cafe named “Treated”. The owner of this cafe, formerly an ancient house as well, made a gaping hole on the ceiling and packed it with bamboo pots. The smaller holes are adorned with indoor lights which when lit simultaneously, gives the place a truly unique and awe inspiring ambiance. I felt a bit sad when leaving Hoian for Ho Chi Minh city. Hoian captured my heart and is truly special. It is not as old and historic as the capital Hue and not so crowded like Cho Lon (the Big Market). Hoian just carries a pure and peaceful life that anyone could ever dream to live in their lifetime. For more info: http://www.privateluxuryjourneys.com/ End
