By: GF Joe Bakery Local baker Joseph "GF Joe" Camerieri owns an online gluten free bakery. "I took some time off and went to New York to help hurricane Sandy victims. Before I left I saw an email alert for amateur bakers contest in New York. This caught my eye, I submitted right away, filled out the application and sent in my favorite ice hockey photo with the 'Stanley Keg' (a hockey beer league, Tampa, Fl) over my head and huge smile." While helping Hurricane Sandy Victims he made the baker's audition in Manhattan. He passed two auditions and then GFJoe was notified that they are flying him out to California. The very next day he had shoulder surgery, so he flew out with his arm in a sling. All contestants had to be sequestered from other contestants and not allowed to talk to anyone about this process, until now. GF Joe made cupcakes and cookies for the national competition while in a sling. At the audition two judges from the one of the best culinary schools in the world, LeCordon Blue, approved his gluten free cupcakes and cookies. GF Joe made the cut to the final top 30 out of 5000 plus amateur bakers and was flown to California. Ironically, CBS show producers and the Hollywood Sheraton hotel did NOT accommodate GF Joe for his gluten & food allergy diet. Eating just some of the provided foods, even selectively, created upset within his system. Being sequestered, was not a problem at all, it was the sustenance that did not help his system. GF Joe had his worst symptoms in 15 years, had a dried blood in his nose, which is severe reaction. But as they say in Hollywood, "The show must go on," and they did. GF Joe, along with twenty others was cut before the final 10. Since being excused, he will be watching and rooting for his new acquaintance from the audition that made the show. As far as he knows no one on the show can bake gluten free that tastes great, GF Joe was thinking he could have represented the gluten free audience. CBS had dealt with Gluten intolerance case before when actress Jennifer Esposito, who has Celiac, was excused from her Blue Bloods show. He can't believe his baking made top 30 out of 5000 amateur bakers. While some of his products are sold in local grocery health food stores, he is seeking out investors to expand his brand, under the brand name "GFJoe Gluten Free Bakery."
