East County YMCAs Swim Classes Starting This Month

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - June 7, 2013 - PRLog -- THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF.--Parents with children six months of age and older still have time to sign up their kids for swim lessons at YMCAs in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Agoura Hills and Simi Valley. Two-week sessions begin June 17 with new sessions taking place throughout summer. Group and private lessons are available.

         "With so many pools in our area and the beaches nearby, kids must know how to swim and understand the importance of water safety," says Meghan Lopez, Conejo YMCA aquatics director.  

         Parent/child classes are for parents with children six months to 36 months old. Tots learn how to be comfortable in the water. Classes for older children are divided by age and skill levels with children advancing at their own pace.

         The Conejo YMCA, Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park and the Simi Valley Family YMCA feature indoor swimming pools with water temperatures at 84 degrees. Triunfo YMCA swim classes take place in the heated Agoura High School pool.  

         The Conejo, Miller and Triunfo YMCA branches all have swim teams. Teams compete with other YMCA teams. "Swimmers must pass certain swim level requirements although the teams are divided based on swimming ability," says Brittany Kahle, the Triunfo Y's aquatics coordinator. "Team members work on stroke development, endurance and team building all while having fun."
