June 10, 2013 - PRLog -- International sports fans will be flocking to Aruba in November as the Dutch Caribbean island hosts the grand slam of beach tennis.

One of the world’s largest tournaments for this fast-growing sport has become a major annual event in Aruba – and this year there is a chance for one lucky couple to win a VIP package to attend.

The Aruba Tourism Authority has teamed up with sports equipment giant Wilson to this week launch an online competition to win a seven-night holiday package to the island, including top tickets for the Aruba International Beach Tennis Tournament, running from November 12 to 17.

Entry to the free draw is available at www.wilsonarubacompetition.com and is open until September 1. The prize include flights with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, seven nights’ accommodation at the all-inclusive Divi Village, VIP tickets to the tournament, including seats for the final on Sunday, November 17 and £400-worth of Wilson sports clothing and gear.

The Aruba International Beach Tennis Tournament is the biggest athletic event of the year in Aruba. Around 1,000 competitors are expected this year in professional, amateur and youth categories. The island’s Eagle Beach is transformed into a village, with a food court, bars, shops and live music alongside the 20 beach tennis courts.

Beach tennis has been played in Aruba since 2000 and remains one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. Using depressurised tennis boards and a colourful paddle, rather than a racquet, beach tennis is for teams of two. Played on a court the same size as that for volleyball, players have to hit the ball over the net of a court without letting it bounce.

Note to editors: The Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba lies 15 miles north of the South American coastline, benefitting from year-round sunshine, an average temperature of 32 degrees and a cooling breeze. Located on the edge of the hurricane belt, with a nine mile stretch of award-winning pristine beach, turquoise seas, colonial Dutch architecture and a Latin vibe; Aruba is a delightful alternative Caribbean experience. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines operates to Aruba five times a week, with departures from 16 UK airports via its international hub at Amsterdam Schiphol. Thomson Airways will operate weekly charter departures from London Gatwick from May to October. Leading tour operators offering packages to Aruba include Thomson Holidays, First Choice, Kuoni, Tropical Sky and Kenwood Travel.
