June 25, 2013 - PRLog -- The creativity and caring spirit of Hong Kong students shine through in art pieces about social inclusion.  The artworks are on display in the latest “art in mtr – roving art” exhibition which opened at MTR Tiu Keng Leng Station on 23 June 2013.  In one memorable painting, a heart is the last piece to complete a jigsaw puzzle which depicts love to be at the centre amongst children from different backgrounds.  In another piece, students stand hand-in-hand in front of a rainbow bearing the word “harmony”.

The exhibition, entitled “Visual Arts Contest on Inclusion”, features a total of 42 prize-winning art pieces from a competition held for primary and secondary school students last year to promote an inclusive school culture and to enhance public awareness of and support for integrated education.

“The featured artworks speak very clearly about an important social issue: social inclusion, and they do so in a way that is positive and uplifting.  The student artists express the universal values of acceptance, mutual care and support.  As a company committed to providing caring service, we’re very particularly pleased to provide a platform for the students to share their thoughts with the wider Hong Kong community,” said Mr Jay Walder, Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation.

“Through the Visual Arts Contest on Inclusion, students of different age groups were encouraged to explore the attributes required to create an inclusive environment at school, such as acceptance, respect, love, appreciation of individual differences and support among peers of different abilities and aptitudes,” said Ms Hera Chum, Principal Assistant Secretary (Special Education and Kindergarten Education), Education Bureau. “By bringing the prize-winning entries from the competition to the attention of MTR passengers, we hope that members of the public will appreciate our inclusive school culture.”

The Visual Arts Contest on Inclusion was jointly organised by the Education Bureau, the Subsidised Primary Schools Council, the Union of Government Primary School Headmasters and Headmistresses, the Hong Kong Subsidised Secondary Schools Council and the Association of Principals of Government Secondary Schools.

The roving art exhibition at MTR Tiu Keng Leng Station runs through to 22 July and will move to MTR Sai Wan Ho Station from 25 July to 26 August.
