Jeep Delays the Launch of the New 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Jeep has decided to add some last minute modifications to the Jeep and the production facility in Toledo, Ohio that will be building it. This is to provide extra assurance that the quality of the vehicle meets Jeep standards. Jeep is also doing a little extra work on the nine-speed automatic transmission. This will be the first time Jeep or any other brand has included a nine-speed automatic transmission in a car, and Chrysler plans to bring it to many of their other vehicles.

The iconic Jeep Cherokee ended its previous run in 2011. Jeep decided to replace it with the smaller Jeep Liberty, but the vehicle never quite took the same hold as the Cherokee. Now Jeep will replace the Liberty with a new version of its predecessor. This time around the Jeep Cherokee is based off the Dodge Dart’s platform and will be a compact crossover.

This new Jeep Cherokee will come standard with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine capable of 184 hp. Drivers can also upgrade to a more powerful 3.2L V6 powertrain capable of 271 hp. While the 2014 Jeep Cherokee has a similar size and output to the Liberty, its new nine-speed automatic transmission will improve fuel efficiency considerably.

While the Jeep Cherokee will offer a smoother driver than previous generations now that it is a compact crossover, there will also be trail-rated options available for the Jeep Cherokee.
