Salad Bars Donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County

Donation being recognized with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on July 16th

MONTEREY, Calif. - July 1, 2013 - PRLog -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County is the latest beneficiary of Salad Bars from the Grower-Shipper Association Foundation as part of the “More Produce in Schools” project.  The donation is being recognized with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony to be held on July 16th at 5:00 pm at the Salinas Clubhouse located at 85 Maryal Drive in Salinas.

The Grower-Shipper Association (GSA) Foundation and The United Fresh Produce Association have a goal of placing more than 350 salad bars throughout California.  Twenty-five salad bars have been distributed to school cafeterias in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties.  The units donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County are the first to be placed in a non-profit youth service organization.  The two refrigerated units will be used in the Seaside and Salinas Clubhouses to provide fresh produce for approximately 900 kids and teens a day.

“We are so excited about this gift! Our kids love fresh fruits and vegetables, and the bar makes it fun and easy,” shares Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County CEO Donna Ferraro.  “We have a strong commitment to good nutrition at the Clubs because we know it is fundamental to a healthy lifestyle.  This gift will have such a positive impact on the lives of our youth.”

GSA Foundation Board member Margaret D’Arrigo-Martin explains, “The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County was a perfect match for our More Produce in Schools project.  Our community grows the best produce in the world, and we want to be sure all of our kids have access to it.”
